Beyond the Zorn Palette: Using a Limited Palette for Harmony and Simplicity

Sunday, September 13, 2026 • 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. • Rec Hall

Simplify your life, lighten your load, create more harmony in your paintings, and expand the expressiveness of your painting with a limited palette. In this workshop, we go beyond the traditional Zorn palette (Ivory Black, Yellow Ocher and Cadmium Red) and use your favorite Red, Yellow, Blue and White pigments to create harmonious and expressive paintings.

Learn to see beyond copying and discover the limitless possibilities of working with fewer colors. If you have thought about working in a limited palette but didn’t know where to start, this workshop will get you started with a new way of seeing. This hands-on workshop suitable for oil, gouache, watercolor, and acrylic paint. Demos will be shown in oil paint.

Materials

  • Two - 8x10 or 9x12 pieces of paper/canvas suitable for your medium (taped to board preferred)

  • Painting materials – your favorite red, yellow, blue and white paints

  • Pencil & Eraser

  • Notebook

  • All other materials will be provided.
