2023 Packing List & Info
Winter Plein Air is an annual painting retreat at YMCA Camp Menogyn, a wilderness camp with lodge and cabins located a half-mile walk/ski/snowshoe across Bearskin Lake at an entry to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW).  The parking lot at YMCA Camp Menogyn is 31.5 miles up the Gunflint Trail from Grand Marais, Minnesota.

WPA is not a competition. It is a painting expedition to a YMCA wilderness camp to spend 5 days painting the beauty of the BWCAW and enjoying the camaraderie of other painters.

After the retreat, painters return to Grand Marais to hang their paintings at Johnson Heritage Post Art Gallery. A Friday night public reception is followed by month long exhibit. Unsold paintings may be retrieved by volunteers who return to the North Shore at the end of the show.
